How to pin bone salmon

Want your salmon silky-smooth, without surprise choke hazards? Pin boning is the secret! Those spesky bones can ruin an otherwise perfect eating experience, but with the right technique and a single, simple tool, you’ll have boneless fillets in no time. All you need is a pair of tweezers and we recommend fish pliers for the job; ones you’ll only use in the kitchen. Please don’t use tweezers from the bathroom cupboard. Apart from tweezers, you need a steady hand, a firm grip, and a few minutes. It’s honestly very quick to do.

1. Put your salmon on a work surface, skin side down. Run your fingers along the bone line to feel where the bones are (they’re in a straight line). Some are visible, others you have to search for as you can’t see them but you’ll feel them.

2. Press your tweezers into the flesh over the top of a bone, then squeeze hard to securely grab it.

3. Pull the bone firmly at an angle slightly toward you, to remove the bone.

4. Discard that bone, then repeat until they’re all gone.
